FAITH ACADEMY CALENDAR OF EVENTS
2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR
August:
- Aug. 9 Faith Academy starts its 2009-2010 school year! Have a blessed first day of school!
- Aug. 10 REQUIRED parent/teacher meeting. Ridgecrest Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Please make plans to bring your family for fellowship and orientation. 5:30 New Parents will meet for an orientation meeting. 6:15 returning parents will join us for a short announcement time during which we will go over our school year plans, talk about requirements and encourage each other in our home schooling journey. Both new and returning parents - Please bring a covered dish for a fellowship dinner in between meetings. Please bring enough food for your family plus 8 more and a 3 liter drink or gallon of tea to share.

September:
- Co-op Classes begin on Fridays as follow: Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22,29
- TBA - Tour of Tuscaloosa, Museum of Natural History (UA Smith Hall -Adults $2.00, Children $1.00, under 4 free) Tuscaloosa Police And Fire Depts., City Hall.
- TBA - Shark Tooth Creek Outdoor Adventures (all ages) 9:30. Includes orientation presentation and hay ride to the creek to search for fossilized shark teeth. Also includes picnic area and play-world. $15.00 www.sharktoothcreek.com
- Sept. 30 - Family community service project due
October
- Co-op classes as follow: October 2, 9, 16, 23, 29
- TBA - Moundville Native American Festival (all ages) www.moundville.ua.edu
- Oct. 8- Tom Beville Visitors Center & US Snagboat Montgomery-Free We will stop at the Pickens Co. Courthouse to "find the face".
- Oct. 19- Oak Mountain State Park Wildlife Center, Tree Top Nature Trail, Petting/Exhibit Farm, nature walk to waterfall, Park Entrance Fee: Adult $2.00, Children $1.00
- Oct. 12 - 6:30 REQUIRED Parent teacher meeting. Forms due with grades and days of attendance. Lesson Plan Books checked. School pictures will be taken starting at 6:00. Payment due at the time of the sitting. No groups however siblings are welcome to have their pictures made separately.

- Oct. 31 - Family community service project due
November:

- Nov 9: Tour of Selma: Sturdivant Hall (students $2.00, adults $5.00); Slavery & Civil War Museum; National Voting Rights Museum
- Nov 18: Perry Lakes Park-100ft Birding Tower, Nature Trails, Walk to Bartons Beach on Cahaba River, Picnic
- Nov. 19 - Thanksgiving Feast and Talent Show. 10:30 AM at Ridgecrest Baptist
Please come prepared with whatever talent your child would like to share. (this could be singing, piano, dance, dramatic reading, short skit, sharing art work, a school project in which you are especially proud, etc.) Also please bring a meal, enough for your family plus 8 more, and a 3 liter drink or gallon of tea. We will share the food and fellowship time as well as sharing what we are thankful for in our lives.
- Nov. 25, 26 - Thanksgiving Holiday NO SCHOOL or office hours. Please remember to give thanks!
- Nov. 30 - Family community service project due

- Dec. 1- All Fired Up to make Christmas gifts 10:00 AM - all ages
- Dec 9 :Tannehill State Park-Village Christmas
- TBA Christmas Nativity Hay Ride at Hannah United Methodist in Gordo (all ages) A candlelit hay ride with stops at scenes depicting the prophecy and fulfillment of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Warm up after the ride with complementary hot chocolate. No charge.
- TBA Polar Express Train Ride
- Dec. 14 6:30 REQUIRED Parent teacher meeting. Forms due with grades and days of attendance. Lesson Plan books checked. Please bring your items for our school community project.
- Dec. 15: Christmas Break - NO SCHOOL or office hours until January. Merry CHRISTmas! May your family enjoy this time together as we celebrate our Lord and Saviors birth.
January:
- Jan. 3- Faith Academy starts the new semester. Happy and Blessed New Year!

- Jan. 11--Tour of Montgomery/State Capitol, Civil Rights Memorial & Center (Max of 56 for I-Max) Dept. of Archives & History, Little White House of the Confederacy
- TBA - Winter Formal -For ALL ages. This WILL be a formal event. Boys will wear suits/tux and girls a formal or very dressy Sunday dress. This will be a Christian get-together of food, fellowship, conservative dancing and music. Parents are encouraged to chaperone. Please bring a platter of finger foods. Time & Place TBA
- TBA - DeSoto Caverns-School Underground Classroom-A hands-on class on cave exploring-$19.00 per student-20 minimum, School Cave Tour:$10.00 each, School Fun Pack:$13.50-includes cave tour, maze & panning, School Attractions:$3.00 each

National Christian Honor Society Tapping - Dress up affair, please bring cameras and friends and relatives to this very special event This is also the first night of Summer School registration as well as Early Registration Discount for the 2011-2012 school year.
- TBA Ave Maria Grotto- Cullman Admission adults $7.00, children 6-12 $4.50 Group Rates adults $5.00, Highschool students $4.00, Elementary students $3.00
- Mar. 14-18. Spring Break. No office hours or Co-op.

April:
- Co-op classes as follow: April 1, 8, 15, 22. (April 22 is the last Co-op class for the year)
- TBA Side Trails to History Program Tannehill- $5.00 per student-minimum of 25 students: Includes 2 1/2 hrs of instructional activities & walking tour, train ride, The Iron & Steel Museum, Fowler House School, The Blast Furnace, Marchant House,a Settlers Cabin, & Nature Trail.
- Ap. 29: Standardized Testing. Grades 3-10. (and any 11th or 12th graders not taking the ACT) 9:00 - 1:00. Please bring two #2 pencils, scratch paper, a morning snack and drink, a sack lunch and drink, Also bring a book to read and a light jacket. Please get plenty of rest the night before and have a hearty breakfast.

May:
- NO MORE CO-OP CLASSES
- May 2 Field Day! Annette Shelby park. 10:00 until 2:00. Bring finger foods to share for our picnic and canned drinks labeled with your name. Also bring any games, baseball equipment, soccer balls, etc. Please wear modest bathing suits and coverups for water fun. There are restroom facilities to change in. Dont forget your sun-bloc, picnic blankets or folding chairs. Expected guest will be the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Tuscaloosa Fire Department, Block Buster Video, Baileys TaeKwonDo, Sports team members from Univ. of AL and Shelton State.
- May 10- 6:30 P.M. REQUIRED Parent teacher meeting. Forms due with grades and days of attendance. Lesson Plan books checked. AWARDS FORMS DUE Early registration for next year accepted tonight. You may also register for summer school. This is also our STUDENT SHOWCASE NIGHT
- May 13 Senior Luncheon -11:00
- May 13 - Graduation and Awards Ceremony. 7:00 P.M. Ridgecrest Baptist Church Sanctuary. This ceremony is for all grades and is REQUIRED. This is a dress-up occasion. Please bring a tray of finger foods such as cookies, fruit, nuts, etc. and two 3 liter drinks. Please plan vacations around this special day for recognizing our students hard work
Field Trips in the Works: Al Power Co. in Clanton, Tour of Tuscaloosa, Blue Bell plant in Sylacauga, FBI building in Birmingham, Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum Clarkston Covered Bridge: Bridges of Blount County, Hardins Bakery, Tuscaloosa Water Works. T-Dot, Ochoee White Water Rafting, Biltmore Estate, Gatlinburg, TN, Sloss Furnace, Terrific Tuesdays (SSCC), Alabama Adventure, Please share any ideas for good field trips.
Summer School applicants: First semester will begin Monday May 16 through June 24. Second semester summer school will begin June 27 thru August 5 . Each student that completes his semesters work will receive the normal academic credits on their transcripts.
